Madonna of the Harpies 1517 tempera on panel 207 x 178 cm Pitti Palace Andrea Del Sarto was a High Renaissance Italian painter. Sarto had been influenced by Fra Bartolomeo, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci. Sarto had such a great reputation when he was young that the King of France invited him to court. Andrea Del Sarto had lived through very difficult times. The Siege of Florence had been occurring at the time. Home invasions were common for people during that time, and Sarto had also been asked to paint some works of "unpleasant nature." Alongside the Siege of Florence, Andrea Del Sarto had experienced the plague, which was eventually his cause of death. See link for more information! Credits:
